Konica Minolta vs Xerox Printer Rental in London: Which Should You Choose?

If you are looking at Konica Minolta printer rental in London, the chances are you are also being quoted for Xerox, and possibly wondering whether the brand matters at all. It does, a little. Both make excellent A3 multifunction printers, but they differ in how they feel to use, how they handle security and apps, and which models fit particular offices best.

We supply and support both brands, so this isn’t a sales pitch for one over the other. It is a practical comparison to help you decide which suits your office, and what to check in a rental agreement whichever you choose.

The short answer

  • Choose Konica Minolta if you want a broad range of sizes from compact to high-volume, a very intuitive tablet-style control panel and strong built-in security options. The bizhub i-Series is a safe, versatile choice for most offices.
  • Choose Xerox if you value Xerox’s long-standing strength in colour output and workflow apps, or if you want the option of a quality refurbished machine on a flexible rental. The AltaLink range is particularly strong for busy offices.
  • Either way, the supplier and the agreement matter more than the logo. A well-supported machine on a fair contract will serve you better than the “best” machine on a poor one.

Where they differ

Ease of use

Xerox AltaLink C8200 series app-based touchscreen home screen

Konica Minolta’s i-Series uses a large, tablet-style touchscreen that most people find instantly familiar: swipe, pinch and tap. Xerox AltaLink machines also have a large touchscreen – (picture above), built around Xerox’s app-based interface, where each task (copy, scan to email, scan to folder) is an app that can be customised for your team. Both are easy to use once set up; the difference is mainly personal preference, so it is worth seeing both if you can.

Security

Both brands take security seriously, which matters for London businesses handling client, financial or personal data. Konica Minolta’s i-Series offers built-in antivirus scanning (Bitdefender) as an option, alongside encrypted storage, user authentication and secure print release. Xerox AltaLink machines include firmware verification, encrypted storage and their own embedded protection against unauthorised software, with authentication and secure print. In practice, how well security is configured matters more than which brand you choose.

Apps and workflow

Both brands offer app stores for scanning to cloud services, translation, document conversion and more. If your team scans heavily into Microsoft 365, SharePoint or Google Drive, ask to see the exact workflow on the machine before you commit.

Colour quality

Both produce excellent office colour. For proposals, marketing material and presentations, either will do the job well. If colour is business-critical, for example in creative, architecture or property marketing, ask for sample prints of your own files on both. Our guide to why screen colours don’t match prints explains what to look for.

Refurbished options

This is where Xerox currently has a clear edge for rental customers. Scriptum refurbishes Xerox AltaLink C8100 series machines with Xerox factory-trained engineers and rents them directly, with free delivery and network installation, remote monitoring, automatic toner and our UK helpdesk. It is a good fit for newer businesses, short office leases or anyone who would rather not take on a finance agreement. Read more in refurbished vs new photocopiers.

Head-to-head comparisons

If you have narrowed it down to specific models, these detailed reviews will help:

What to check in any rental agreement

Whichever brand you choose, the agreement decides what you actually pay. Make sure each quote states:

  • The exact model, configuration and whether it is new or refurbished
  • Monthly rental, plus separate mono and colour cost-per-page rates
  • Any minimum monthly volume, and whether it matches your current printing
  • How and when prices can increase
  • Term, notice period and renewal terms
  • Delivery, installation and end-of-term collection costs

Our A3 photocopier rental and leasing guide has indicative London prices for both, the lease clauses to check and a full checklist.

Support matters more than the brand

A printer is only as good as the service behind it. Scriptum is based at Canary Wharf with its own London engineering team covering Central London and the M25 region, plus UK-wide support. Because we support both Konica Minolta and Xerox, we can recommend whichever fits your office, rather than whichever we happen to sell.
